Robinsonade

ROBINSONADE (2010) is an adaptation to comic of 'A History of Robinson Crusoe', a short story included in 'The Natural Economic Order' written by economy theoretician Silvio Gesell in 1911. Gesell used the form of a short story in order to explain how an economy that does not apply interests to borrowed money, would work.

This edition was made during a period of residency at CASCO OFFICE FOR ARTS, DESIGN AND THEORY, as a contribution to the Grand Domestic Revolution Library.

A 50€ banknote together with a letter was sent to a first address in the city of Enschede. This first address was invited to send the banknote to a second given address, the second to a third, the third to a fourth, the fourth to a fifth, and the fifth to the exhibition hall before the opening of this project. The participants did not know each other and had the possibility of reintroducing the note in the economic system or contributing in changing the status of the note by mailing it forward. After the exhibition space, the ultimate home for the banknote would be the local public art collection.
